The Apple iPhone is the most searched for UK mobile phone, according to new research from search consultants Hitwise.
New data reveals that the iphone was the ‘most searched for’ mobile phone at the top 100 retail websites in the UK. The research, which took place during the four weeks ending 20 October 2007, shows that the iphone had 11.4% internet searches for a specific mobile phone.

The data reveals that the UK has a growing appetite for smartphones, with the iPhone and Nokia’s flagship smartphone Nokia N95 being the two most searched for mobile devices.

With 34.2% of searches, Apple was the most search for gadget brand in the UK. Robin Goad, UK Research Director at Hitwise, said: “The iPod was the most popular Apple product, followed by the iPod Nano, the iPhone and newly launched iPod Touch.
“Apple has an extremely strong brand in the UK, and this data illustrates that this is translating into searches that are sending traffic to retail websites in the run up to Christmas.”

Despite the iPhone being the most searched for individual mobile phone model, Nokia is the most searched for mobile phone brand overall in the UK, very closely followed by Sony Ericsson.
